Notes
[a] E. C. Eliott:
The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction, second edition, by John Clute and
Peter Nicholls is my main source of information about this author and his work
(p. 375). I cannot find any evidence that the author has died, although the
Clute/Nicholls reference is from 1993. [ Back to top of listing ]
[b] Kemlo and the Martian Ghosts:
Clute and Nicholls (see note [a] for details) give the year of publication
as 1954, but I've been told that an actual copy of the original edition of this
book (which I have not seen myself) gives the date of publication as February,
1955. [ Back to Kemlo and the Martian Ghosts ]
[c] Kemlo and the Craters of the Moon and Kemlo and the Space Lanes:
The series ordering given here for these two titles is that shown by Clute
and Nicholls (see note [a] for details); however, the listing of series titles
given on the dustjacket flap of Kemlo and the Star Men reverses these two titles
in order. [ Back to Kemlo and the Craters of the Moon ]
[d] Kemlo and the Space Lanes and Kemlo and the Star Men:
The Merlin Books editions of these two titles spell the author's pseudonym
as "Eliot", not "Eliott". This would appear to be incorrect, in view of the
fact that the hardcover editions and the Nelson Junior paperback editions all
agree in giving "Eliott". [ Back to Kemlo and the Space Lanes ]
[e] Kemlo and the Star Men:
The Merlin Books edition of this title has material cut from its text,
which would appear to be unintentional. On p. 112, three paragraphs are
omitted - nearly a whole page of text. They are the first three paragraphs of
Chapter 15, "The Star Men" (p. 169 of the original edition), and the chapter
title itself is omitted, thus amalgamating two chapters into one long chapter.
The remaining chapter that follows is numbered 15 in the Merlin edition, not 16,
reflecting this change, so an examination of this edition itself would not
reveal anything wrong, except for the amalgamated "chapter" being abnormally
long, and also probably an obvious gap in the plot itself caused by the missing
text. [ Back to Kemlo and the Star Men ]
[f] Kemlo and the Purple Dawn and Kemlo and the End of Time:
The series ordering given here for these two titles is that shown by Clute
and Nicholls (see note [a] for details); however, the listing of series titles
given on the dustjacket flap of Kemlo and the Star Men reverses these two titles
in order. I've been told that a similar listing in Kemlo and the Zombie Men
also reverses the ordering given by Clute and Nicholls.
[ Back to Kemlo and the Purple Dawn ]
[g] Tas and the Space Machine and Tas and the Postal Rocket:
The two books comprising this short series are listed here in the order
given by Clute and Nicholls (see note [a] for details); however, the titles are
listed in reverse order on the British 1950s series page at
http://www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au/usrpages/collect/1950s.htm. Where this
listing was derived from, I don't know; but it is possible it's from the cover
of one of the actual books, and it could well reflect the true order of
publication. [ Back to Tas series ]
